Wheat is frequently sprayed with glyphosate as a pre-harvest desiccant, depositing residue in flour and finished bread products. Whole wheat varieties tend to show higher contamination than refined white bread because the bran and germ — where pesticide residue concentrates — are retained. Mamavation's 2026 testing found glyphosate in the majority of non-organic bread brands.
